The 2019 data assume that this was the 43 consecutive year with an increase in terrestrial and ocean temperatures compared to the average of the last century.

Last year it picked up an increase in temperatures with respect to that average of 1.42 ° C on land and 0.77 ° C in the oceans, only surpassed by rises of 1.54 ° C on the earth's surface and 0, 79 ° C in the seas that was recorded in 2016.

The year 2019 was the second hottest year in South America , with an average higher at 1.24 ° C than that of the 20th century, an increase that was only surpassed in 2015.

In Europe , last year was also the second warmest year. In addition, the highest average temperatures in the history of the continent have been recorded in the last six years.

The average temperature in Europe has grown by 0.14 ° C per decade since 1910, but this growth has more than tripled since 1981, reaching an average increase of 0.46 ° C.

North America is the only region that does not register an average annual temperature among the highest in its history, since at the end of 2019 it was affected by a surge of Arctic cold.

While in Oceania , a territory affected at the end of the year by fires in Australia, the highest temperatures in its history have been recorded this year, since it exceeded its average temperature by 1.40 ° C for the last century.
