The governor of Tokyo, Koike Yuriko, amid the announcement of the coronavirus pandemic, said that there was no question of canceling the Olympic Games, the Kyodo agency reported.

“I think there will be influence, but no cancellation is possible,” Koike said.

She noted that Tokyo will strengthen collaboration with the national organizing committee and the International Olympic Committee.

The governor also commented on the possibility of postponing the Olympics. "As for Tokyo, we have done a lot of preparatory work. The IOC will consider the situation as a whole and make a decision," said Yuriko Koike.

The World Health Organization on March 11 announced the outbreak of the new coronavirus pandemic. About 120 thousand people in more than 100 countries have already been infected in the world, most have recovered, but more than 4 thousand have died.

In Japan, by this time, 620 cases of infection have been recorded. Another 696 cases were detected among passengers and the crew of the Diamond Princess cruise ship, and 14 cases were detected among Japanese transported from China by charter flights in February. In total 1330 people got sick. 22 people died, 40 are in serious condition, 475 were discharged from hospitals.
